Debate: stretch-in vs power-stretch for patterned carpets - which side are you on?
I spent 5 years doing stretch-in on patterned carpets because that's how my old boss taught me, then a customer pointed out a 2-inch shift on a repeat pattern and I realized I'd been fighting the material the whole time. Now I'm wondering if power-stretching is the real answer or if I just had bad technique - anyone else have a moment like this that made you switch methods?

Ha I feel this in my soul. That gut punch when you finally see the pattern shift you've been ignoring for years is brutal. I used to think I was just bad at measuring until I realized I was basically wrestling the carpet into submission instead of actually stretching it right.

Man @wesleybutler you nailed it with that wrestling analogy because that's EXACTLY what I was doing for YEARS! I remember the exact day it clicked for me too - a homeowner literally pointed at the repeat and said "this is off by like 3 inches" and I felt my whole world crumble. I had been so focused on getting the carpet tight I never bothered to check if the pattern was actually flowing right. Power-stretching changed everything for me though, once I learned to work WITH the pattern instead of against it. Now I always start by finding the repeat and stretching in sections that keep the design aligned. That gut feeling of realizing you've been doing it wrong for so long is rough but honestly it made me a way better installer.
