Bought a used power stretcher off Craigslist and it broke after my first job

Found a barely used Crain 575 for $200 on Craigslist last week, thought I scored big. Got it home and on my first carpet install in a spare bedroom the release lever snapped clean off halfway through stretching. Had to borrow my buddy's stretcher to finish the job and now I'm out the cash with a broken tool. Anyone else ever get burned buying used equipment like this?

Craigslist deals on tools are always a gamble, that's just how it goes with used gear sometimes. Maybe check the release lever mechanism next time before you hand over the cash, that part takes a beating on those older models.
