Bay window jobs are popping up more often, but I aced one this morning

Lately, I keep getting calls for rooms with bay windows. Those curves used to give me trouble with the carpet laying flat. I remembered a tip from an old timer about cutting relief slits in the backing. Tried it on a job today and it fit like a glove. Felt great to see the client smile at the clean result.

Those relief slits changed everything for me too.

Honestly it's just carpet. Cutting a few slits to make it fit seems like making a big deal out of a simple fix. People act like it's some major home improvement hack. It's not that deep, you just don't want it to bunch up.

Right? Total game changer.

That trick is solid for sure, but careful not to cut too many slits. It can make the backing weak and the carpet might stretch out over time. Just a couple deep ones at the tightest part of the curve does the job.
