Appreciation post: An old timer in a Fresno supply house told me 'The carpet tells you where it wants to go, you just have to listen.'

Oh man, that reminds me of my buddy installing vinyl plank. He fought one piece for twenty minutes, forcing it, tapping it, the whole deal. He finally gave up and walked away for a smoke. When he came back, he flipped the board end for end just to try something. It clicked right in, perfect and snug. He said the floor was telling him he was holding it wrong the whole time. Some of those old guys really know their stuff.

Hah, that's the universe giving you a little timeout to reset your brain. I once did something similar putting together IKEA furniture, swore the drawer was broken. Took a break, came back, and I had the side panel flipped. Felt so dumb but also weirdly grateful for past-me walking away. It's like your hands just need to forget the wrong way before they can find the right one.

My dad did the same thing with laminate. Spent an hour on one plank before realizing it was upside down.
