A guy in a Denver apartment building asked me to save his old carpet pad

I was tearing out a worn out shag in unit 4B last month, and the tenant, Mark, stopped me before I tossed the pad. He said his dad used to install carpet in the 80s and swore by reusing pads that weren't broken down. I checked it, and it was actually still firm, so I left it. Has anyone else had a customer ask for something like that, or is it just asking for trouble down the line?

That old pad will just trap moisture and stink up the whole place later.

Trap moisture and stink" is exactly it. People cling to old stuff trying to save a buck, but it always costs more later.
