Shoutout to the old guy at the lumber yard in Spokane who told me to always use a story stick for cabinets. Three years later, I'm still doing it, but my apprentice swears digital is faster.

Gotta side with the apprentice on this one! Digital is just way more precise and you can't accidentally bump a story stick. Plus you can share the file instantly.

Used to be all about the story stick myself, swore by the physical feel of it. Then I watched a guy have to redo a whole set of rafters because his stick got knocked off the sawhorse overnight. The digital file just lives on, you can pull it up on any device. It's not about being fancy, it's about not having to start over from scratch.
