Question about using a framing nailer for finish trim

I used to think a framing nailer was fine for door casings and baseboards because it saved me time on a big remodel in Spokane. After seeing the split wood and filler needed on the last job, I switched to a finish nailer even though it takes longer. Does anyone else think the extra time is worth it for cleaner work?

Oh man, @barbara_hall9 is totally right. I learned this the hard way on some window trim. A framing nailer just blows out the back of thin stock every time, right? You end up with these ugly little splits that the paint never really hides, and then you're sanding filler for an hour. Sure, a finish nailer takes a few more seconds per piece, but you're not going back to fix anything later. Isn't that actually faster in the long run?

Finish nailer is always worth it.

But what about when you're using really thick trim?
