Pro tip: ditch the speed square for angle transfers on crown molding

I used to fight with crown molding angles for hours using my speed square and guesswork. Last month on a job in Denver I finally tried the coping method with a handsaw instead (just cutting the profile by eye). Has anyone else made the switch and found it saves time on tricky inside corners?

Weird how letting go of the fancy tool and just trusting your eye works better on so many things. It's like the less gear you carry the faster you actually get the job done.

That "less gear you carry the faster you go" part is so true for me. I spent a whole weekend once with nothing but a 50mm lens and got my best shots ever because I stopped fiddling with settings. Sometimes limiting your choices actually makes you focus better on what's in front of you.
