My old foreman told me to never trust a 4-foot level on a long wall
I mean, I thought he was just being picky, but after a kitchen install in Tacoma last month, I had to redo 12 feet of upper cabinets because the whole run was out by almost half an inch. Anyone else have a rule like that they ignored and paid for?

My uncle always said to check your square on the miter saw before any big trim job. I blew it off once and the whole crown molding corner was a mess, lol. Learned that one the expensive way too.

Honestly, that's a brutal lesson to learn the hard way.

And isn't it funny how that kind of thing bleeds into everything else? Like, everybody's in such a rush to get things done that they skip the five second check, just to save a couple minutes. Then they end up spending an hour fixing the mess they made. It's the same with double checking your measurements before you cut, or proofreading an email before you hit send. The little habits that save you the big headaches are the ones we always convince ourselves we don't have time for. Weird how we'd rather do the work twice than do it right the first time, right?
