Finally fixed a stubborn cabinet door gap with a simple shim trick

I've been fighting with this one kitchen cabinet where the door wouldn't close flush on the bottom corner for weeks, tried adjusting the hinges over and over with no luck. Yesterday I just slipped a thin tapered shim behind the hinge plate on the opposite side and bam, it closed perfectly on the first try. Anyone else run into a gap that hinges alone wouldn't fix?

I gotta push back on the idea that slipping a shim behind the hinge is always the fix, because for me it just masked a bigger issue. I tried that on my bathroom cabinet and the gap came back after a few weeks once the wood settled again. Actually had to take the door off and plane down the edge where it was hitting the frame, which finally did the trick.
