Update: my old boss at the tire shop in Toledo said I'd be back within a year after I quit for office work, and I saw him last Tuesday
I quit my job mounting tires back in 2022 to take a data entry gig for $17 an hour. My boss Dale walked me out to my car, shook my hand, and said "you'll be back in a year, nobody lasts in a cubicle." I laughed it off at the time. Fast forward to last Tuesday, I stopped at the tire shop to get a nail pulled out of my rear tire, and Dale was the one who came out to the bay. He looked at my car, looked at me in my work polo, and just said "huh, still at it then." No apology, no nothing. The thing is, I almost did go back around month 10 when the budget cuts hit, and I think about that a lot. Part of me wanted to remind him that I made it, but I also know he's had 5 guys quit on him this year alone. Has anyone else had a former boss make a call like that about your future, and did it stick with you longer than it should have?
