The cover letter rewrite that took me 3 years to figure out
I spent 3 years sending out cover letters that listed my skills like a menu. Nobody replied except automated rejections. Then last spring I read a hiring manager's post about how they skim for one thing, proof that you solved a specific problem at work. I rewrote mine to lead with a story about cutting a warehouse hazard inspection time from 40 minutes to 15. Four interviews in the next two weeks. Now I wonder how many callbacks I lost because I was bragging about being a hard worker instead of showing what I actually fixed. Has anyone else had that same sinking feeling after seeing a sample letter that just clicks?
