Shoutout to the community college career center in Portland

I was stuck in retail for 8 years. Hated it. A buddy told me to check out the free career counseling at PCC. Walked in on a Tuesday. The guy there asked me what I actually liked doing with my hands. That one question got me into a landscaping certification program for $200. Best money I ever spent. Anyone else use a community college resource to jump start a new career?

So you're saying a landscaping certification costs less than a pair of Jordans? I guess I'll take my shovel out of "just a hobby" status.

Honestly, that's such a good point @wells.reese. Tbh I got my cert for under $300 and it literally changed how people treat my side gig. Ngl it's wild that we spend more on sneakers than on actual skills that pay the bills.

Grabbed my cert last spring for a local horticulture program and it was about $250, right? @wells.reese I gotta say the biggest thing for me was how it opened up commercial clients who wouldn't even return my calls before. One guy literally told me he felt safer hiring someone with a piece of paper. Funny but true. Made me realize those sneakers are just feet candy but the cert keeps my calendar full.
