Quit my 5am routine cold turkey, here is what actually changed

I used to be that person who bragged about waking up at 5am to do a full workout before work. Then I got a night shift supervisor gig at the warehouse in Phoenix last August, and my whole body screamed no. For two weeks I forced it, dragging myself to the gym at 10pm after a 10 hour shift, and it was awful. What convinced me to stop was the warehouse manager pointing out my pick error rate jumped from 2% to 7% in that stretch. Now I just do a 30 minute walk at lunch and stretch at my desk, and my numbers are back to normal. Has anyone else realized forcing an old schedule just because it worked before is a trap after a real job shift?

Flip this around for a second. Most people think your energy is fixed, like a battery that drains. But it's not. Your body has a daily rhythm that shifts with light, temperature, and even the season. Phoenix heat alone changes how you sleep, let alone working nights. So the real trap is thinking your old 5am slot was about discipline when it was probably just matching your natural cycle at the time. Now you're matching a new cycle, and your numbers prove that works better. Maybe the lesson isn't about routines at all, but about listening to what your body signals you, even when they're boring or weird.
