My old boss told me to take a $15k pay cut for 'experience' in a new field.
He said it would pay off in two years, but after 18 months I'm still making less than before and the promised training never happened. Has anyone else been given this specific advice and actually seen it work out?

Trust me, my "experience" from that move is mostly in spotting bad advice...

That boss owes you about fifteen grand in back pay for that "experience." Sounds like you got trained in how to spot a bad deal.

Oh man, that's the real takeaway here. You don't get a paycheck, but you do get a lifetime supply of seeing red flags from a mile away. It's like a very expensive, very frustrating seminar in what not to do. The diploma is just a permanent sense of distrust.
