Laid off at 38, took a $12/hr warehouse job and learned more than my MBA ever taught me

Got let go from my marketing gig in Austin back in February. I figured I'd just temp until something opened up, but two weeks into picking orders at a shipping hub I realized I actually liked the rhythm. My supervisor there worked 16 years in oil and gas before walking away, and he told me the secret is just showing up curious instead of trying to prove yourself. It made me rethink what I valued about work, and now I'm training for a logistics coordinator role. Has anyone else made a weird sideways move that ended up feeling more like a step up?
