I took a 3-month coding bootcamp after managing a crew for 8 years

I was a painting contractor in Phoenix and felt stuck, so I signed up for a web development course online. I figured my project management skills would translate, but learning JavaScript was way harder than I thought. After finishing, I applied to 20 junior developer jobs and got zero offers, which was a huge shock. The lesson I learned is that a certificate alone doesn't open doors without a solid portfolio of real projects. Has anyone else made a big jump into tech and found a better way to show employers you can actually do the work?

Remember how everyone said bootcamps were a golden ticket? My cousin did one for data analytics and hit the same wall. He ended up building a website that tracked local sports team stats, just a small thing, but it gave him real problems to solve and code to show. He said talking about that project in interviews got way more interest than his certificate ever did. What kind of projects are you thinking of building first?

My buddy built three full websites before anyone even looked at his resume, just like paulk42's cousin.
