I thought taking a $15 online course was a waste, but it actually landed me an interview

Totally get where you're coming from. It feels like you need some fancy certificate for it to matter. Honestly, I've seen the cheapest little courses make a difference just by showing you took some initiative. Makes you wonder what else we're overpaying for.

Honestly I have to push back on the idea that a $15 course shows real initiative. I mean it's basically the price of a movie ticket, so how much effort does that really prove? It feels like it just floods the market with people who have the same shallow knowledge. Maybe it got you an interview, but I doubt it actually helped you get the job or do the work. It's more about gaming the system than actually learning something solid.

Wait, what kind of course only costs fifteen bucks? Was it just a single video or something? That's cheaper than my lunch most days. I'm honestly shocked that counted for anything on a resume.
