Hot take: Big corporate offices are better than trendy startups for a first career switch

I visited a WeWork in Austin last month for a friend's startup pitch event and honestly it felt like a circus. People were napping in pods, someone was blending a smoothie at 2pm, and nobody could tell me where their actual office was. Gave me flashbacks to when I switched from bartending to a corporate insurance job in 2021 where I had a desk, a schedule, and actual mentorship. Has anyone else found the 'fun' office culture to be way less helpful than the boring one?

That "nobody could tell me where their actual office was" part really hits. If the people running the place can't point to a real workspace, you're basically paying for the privilege of watching someone make a smoothie.

Oh man, you've been through the wringer with that one... Next time ask them to pull up their company calendar and show you a meeting invite with a real room number. If they can't do that, just walk, you're dodging a bullet.
