Had to choose between a stable offer and a risky startup gig

I got a solid offer from a big construction supplier right after I quit my fencing job, but then a friend asked me to join his new home automation startup. I picked the startup, even though the pay was 15k less at first. It's been six months, and honestly, the learning curve is steep but I'm not bored. Has anyone else taken a pay cut for a totally new field and had it work out okay?

Seen this happen a lot with people who leave boring office jobs. They take a hit on salary to go work at a brewery or start doing carpentry. The ones who stick with it usually end up happier, even if they don't get rich. Money's just one part of the job. Sounds like you're getting the other parts now, which is the real win.

Yeah my buddy left his bank job to fix bikes. He's broke but smiles all day now.
