Got told my resume reads like a dive bar menu and completely redid it
I asked a buddy who works in HR to look over my resume last week. She read it for about 30 seconds and said 'this sounds like you're listing drink specials, not skills.' Ouch. So I cut all the fluff like 'master of multitasking' and replaced it with actual numbers, like how I handle 50+ customers during a rush and keep tabs straight. Has anyone else gotten blunt feedback that forced you to totally scrap your old approach?

The "master of multitasking" line is classic fluff, everyone puts that on there. Good on you for taking the feedback seriously, most people get defensive. Numbers are the way to go, like you did with handling 50+ customers and keeping tabs straight, because that actually proves you can do the job. Another thing that helped me was changing my bullet points from tasks to results. Instead of "responsible for scheduling," I wrote "cut scheduling conflicts by 30% using a new system." It forces you to think about what you actually accomplished, not just what you did.

Wait, did your friend say it sounded like a dive bar menu or a Taco Bell menu? Because either way, at least you got free advice with a side of laughter. @nora184 is totally right about the results thing, I switched from "responsible for inventory" to "tracked stock so well my manager's spreadsheet finally stopped crying." It's wild how much harder it is to think about what you actually did versus just listing stuff you were supposed to do.
