Finally got a call back after 40 applications
Switched from retail to IT support. Problem was my resume had no tech words. A friend in Austin told me to copy the exact words from the job ad into my skills part. Did that for a posting at a local hospital. Got an interview next Tuesday. Anyone else try this keyword trick for a big field change?

Worry this could backfire if they ask detailed questions you can't answer.

Ever been in that spot? I did this switching from retail to a help desk role. I copied phrases like "ticket resolution" and "customer escalation process" straight from the job ad into my past duties. It felt like cheating, but it got the recruiter's attention. They asked about the terms in the interview, and I just explained how my old job actually did those things, just with different names. It worked because I had the real experience to back it up.

My buddy did something similar moving from teaching to project management. He literally pasted whole sections about "agile workflows" and "stakeholder communication" from the listing into his resume. Said it felt weird, but he got the screening call.
