Spent 6 months chasing a certification that barely helped my career

I wanted to move up in IT support so I spent 6 months studying for the CompTIA Security+ cert. Cost me like $400 for the exam and study materials plus weekends gone. Got the cert and sent out like 50 applications. Only 2 callbacks and both offered the same pay I was already making. Wish I had just focused on learning PowerShell or cloud stuff instead of chasing a paper cert. Anyone else waste time on a cert that didn't open doors?

Got my Project Management Professional cert and all it got me was a nicer title doing the same crap.

Yeah that's a rough one. Security+ is just a checkbox for HR, not something that actually moves the needle on salary. You're probably right that PowerShell or cloud skills would have opened more doors, but at least now you know what kind of certs are actually worth your time.
