Rant: I stopped saying yes to every 'quick call' and it saved my sanity
I used to answer client calls at 9 PM on a Tuesday because I thought saying no would lose me work. Then last October my wife pointed out I had taken 14 after hours calls in one month and made $0 extra from any of them. Now I put a hard stop at 5:30 PM and tell people to email me instead. Funny thing is, two clients actually apologized for bugging me so late and one of them booked a bigger project the next week. My old boss at the marketing firm in Austin warned me about this back in 2019 and I ignored him. Anyone else set a real boundary and have it backfire, or did people just respect it more?
