PSA: Stop listing 'Microsoft Office' as a skill on your resume in 2025
I was helping a friend update his resume last week and saw he had 'Proficient in Microsoft Office' listed under skills. I told him to remove it immediately. That's like applying for a cashier job and listing 'I can count to ten'. Every recruiter I've talked to in the last 6 months says it just makes you look dated. Put something specific instead like Excel pivot tables or PowerPoint automation if you actually know it.

Dropped MS Office from mine and got way more callbacks after switching to specific tools.

OH COME ON, this is getting ridiculous! Listing Microsoft Office shows you have the basic computer skills that actually matter in a business setting, and not everyone grew up using it like we did. I've hired people who had "specific tools" listed but couldn't even send a proper email with attachments. Sometimes keeping the basics is a sign you understand what work actually needs, not what looks fancy on paper.
