Overheard my coworker say 'degrees don't matter' and it got me thinking
He was talking to the new intern. Said he dropped out of college after two years. Now he's a senior dev making six figures. Made me realize I've been chasing certificates and degrees for years. Maybe experience really does count more. Anyone else feel like they wasted time on formal education?

Read an article recently that said most hiring managers care way more about what you can actually do than what piece of paper you have. The guy they interviewed had dropped out of school too and ended up running a whole department. Makes me wonder if I should have saved myself the student loans and just jumped straight into working like he did. The article also pointed out that tech moves so fast, degrees get outdated in a couple years while real experience keeps you sharp. Not saying degrees are totally useless, but they definitely aren't the golden ticket people made them out to be.

But seeing how fast tech changes now, it makes sense. A degree from 5 years ago is already stale. Real projects and problem solving never get old though. Changed my whole view honestly.
