My manager said my emails were 'a wall of text' and honestly she was right
I work in HR at a hospital in Denver and I used to write these long emails to employees about benefits, sometimes 4 or 5 paragraphs with every detail I could think of. Back in March my manager pulled me aside and said, and I quote, 'nobody reads past the second line.' At first I was annoyed but then I looked at my sent folder and saw one email was 600 words about dental coverage. So I started writing just a short intro, 3 bullet points, and one line saying who to call with questions. My response rate actually went up and two people in my office asked me to show them how I did it. Has anyone else gotten feedback like this, and did you feel weird changing something you thought was helpful?
