I used to think asking for a raise was just about listing my tasks
My old boss in Phoenix told me to track my wins with numbers, so I started writing down stuff like 'cut report time by 2 hours a week' for 6 months. When I showed that list instead of just my job duties, I got a 5k bump. How do you guys keep track of your work wins for reviews?

Honestly that sounds like a lot of extra work for a yearly review. Most bosses already know what you do. Just showing up and doing your job well should be enough, right? My last review they just asked if I was happy and that was it. Maybe some places are just more chill about this stuff.

Consider how a good paper trail protects you if they ever need to cut jobs.

Nah, Adam, I gotta disagree hard here. Most bosses are too busy to notice every little thing you do. If you don't track it, it basically didn't happen when review time rolls around. That "chill" review you got probably just means they weren't taking you seriously, not that they appreciated you. Tracking wins takes like 5 minutes a week if you keep a running doc on your phone. It's not extra work, it's just remembering to write down the stuff you already did.
