I spent 6 years applying to jobs one at a time, now I do 5 a week and it works better
For the longest time I would find one job I liked and spend a whole weekend on a custom cover letter for it, then sit around waiting for a reply like a sucker. Last October I got turned down for a warehouse lead spot in Toledo after a 3 round interview and just snapped. Now I keep one solid resume saved, tweak the top 3 lines to match the posting, and fire off 5 to 8 apps every Sunday night. Got 3 callbacks in two weeks doing way less work. Anyone else find that playing the numbers beats trying to be perfect on just one?
I used to treat every single application like I was writing a love letter to the hiring manager, tweaking every bullet and stressing over word choices for hours. My record was one application in a whole weekend, and I got nothing but silence for it. Now I just swap out the job title and a couple lines up top, send out a batch on Sunday, and somehow the callbacks actually show up. Turns out hiring folks skim for like 8 seconds anyway, so my fancy cover letters were basically me doing arts and crafts for nobody. Playing the numbers feels way less soul crushing too, because one rejection doesn't sting when four other apps are already out there.
