I finally visited a friend's new startup office in Austin and the vibe was totally different from my old corporate job.
They had a rule that nobody could schedule meetings before 10 AM, which they said boosted deep work. Has anyone else seen a policy like that actually work?

Wait, they actually got people to follow a no meetings before 10 rule? That's wild. I tried that at my last place and by 9:15 my calendar was packed with "quick syncs." @michael_jones might be onto something, maybe we need to ban early emails too just to make it stick. How do you even enforce something like that without managers just ignoring it?

Did they also ban passive aggressive emails before noon? That's the real deep work policy.

oh totally disagree, @michael_jones. i actually love getting a pre-noon passive aggressive email, it gives me something to spiral about during lunch instead of actually relaxing. and banning them would just force people to be passive aggressive in person, which is way more awkward (you can't just hit delete on a real life conversation).
