Hot take: I stopped asking for a raise and just showed them the numbers instead.

My boss kept saying 'budget' when I asked for more money... so I made a one-page sheet showing the $42k in extra revenue my projects brought in last quarter. Has anyone else tried this instead of just talking?

$42k in extra revenue is a solid number, but did you also track how much of that profit actually made it to the company's bottom line? A lot of folks forget that revenue isn't the same as profit, and bosses love to point out costs. What if your projects had high expenses that ate into that $42k? That could be a real weak spot in your argument if they ever ask about it.

Yeah that 42k figure actually changed my mind too, I used to think revenue numbers were overrated.
