Got fired in Dallas for speaking up, then hired 2 weeks later for the same reason
Six months ago I was at a logistics company in Dallas. We had a weekly meeting where the manager kept taking credit for our team's work. I called it out in front of everyone, said 'that was Sarah's idea, not yours.' Next day HR called me in, said I created a hostile environment. Fired by Thursday.
I was furious. My wife said I should've kept my mouth shut. I spent a week applying everywhere, had three interviews. In two of them I told the story exactly how it happened, including getting canned for it. The third one, a warehouse supervisor role, the guy laughed and said 'we need someone who won't let the higher ups walk on the crew.' Offered me the job on the spot, $4k more than my old salary.
So here's the debate: is speaking up at work ever worth the risk, or did I just get lucky? Would you rather have a job where you stay quiet and collect a paycheck, or one where you might get fired for being honest? Curious what others have done when they saw something wrong at their own workplace and whether it blew up or worked out.
