Got ambushed in a 1-on-1 at my new job in Denver when my boss asked what I wanted to be doing in two years
I froze and said something about growing with the company, and he kind of nodded and moved on, which felt way worse than if he'd pushed back. Spent the rest of the afternoon in my car in the parking garage writing down three actual things I want to learn, then sent him a short note with those three things and asked if any of them matched what his team needed next year. He replied in 10 minutes with two projects I could join, and one of them starts in April. Has anyone else had a boss actually reward the awkward follow-up email, or did I just get lucky?
