Asked for a raise after 2 years, got a counteroffer to train my replacement
I finally worked up the nerve to ask my boss for a $5k bump last Thursday, and instead of saying yes or no, he assigned me to mentor a new hire and asked me to write down everything I do. Now I'm wondering if that was a polite way of getting rid of me, or am I overthinking this? Has anyone else been shown a 'succession plan' right after asking for more money?

Is this just how bosses sidestep the real question, like how a car dealership suddenly finds a repair bill right after you mention a trade-in? Sounds like you're being set up to be replaceable, and that's never a good sign.
