PSA: My transmission quit on I-40 near Barstow and the shop added $4k to my loan instead of fixing it
Two weeks back I was hauling a load and my transmission just died outside Barstow, and the shop told me $5,200 for a rebuild. Since I still owe $11,000 on the truck, they rolled the repair into a new loan at 19% and now my payment jumped from $410 to $600 a month. Has anyone here fought a shop that pushed a repair loan on them, and did refinancing actually help or just drag it out?
Did you agree to that new loan in writing, or did they just slide it in? I used to figure a shop loan was easier than fighting it, but now I see that 19% is the real problem here, not the rebuild itself. Fight the rate first, because I've watched guys get stuck paying double for years when a credit union refi would've cut that in half.
