My buddy's junkyard turbo advice was a total scam, $350 later

Last month my friend Dave swore a $350 junkyard turbo from a wrecked Saab would bolt right onto my 97 Civic. Spent a whole weekend fighting the oil lines and making custom brackets, only to find the shaft had play in it and it blew smoke immediately. He kept saying it was normal break-in but after three days the thing was cooked. Anyone else get burned by parts yard gems that turned out to be pure junk?
