Junkyard starters are fine, here is why I stopped rebuilding them myself

I spent 6 years rebuilding alternators and starters from the junkyard with $14 brush kits, but after three failed batches from the same Pick-n-Pull lot in Denver, I switched to buying used ones outright. The rebuilds always worked for a while, then died at the worst times, and the core charge hassle was never worth it. Anyone else find that junkyard direct swaps beat DIY rebuilds on a budget, or am I just unlucky with burned-out windings?
