Junkyard calipers vs reman units, the $40 gamble paid off
Picked up a set of calipers from a wrecked 2005 Civic at Pull-A-Part for $40 total. The reman ones at the parts store were gonna run me $180 each, so I figured why not. Cleaned them up, replaced the seals with a $12 rebuild kit, and bled the system twice. Honestly the pedal feels firmer than the factory ones ever did. Anyone else had luck with junkyard brake parts or am I just lucky so far?

That junkyard route is honestly the way to go if you have the time. My buddy did the same thing with a 2002 Camry, paid like $30 for both rear calipers and they've been on his car for three years now without a single issue. The key is finding ones that aren't rusted to hell on the bleeder screws, that's where most of them go bad. You already replaced the seals which is smarter than most people, that's the part that actually wears out. I figure as long as you're not buying something that's been sitting in a flood or has visible scoring on the piston bore, you're basically getting the same casting as a reman, just without the core charge. The only real gamble is the slide pins, those can be seized and you won't know until you try to compress them, but even that's a $10 fix. You got lucky with the Civic year too, those calipers were pretty solid, unlike the later ones that had that parking brake issue. How many miles were on the donor car?
