Junkyard alternator vs reman unit, the $45 gamble paid off
Pulled a 130-amp alternator off a wrecked Crown Vic for 45 bucks at Pull-A-Part in Denver, cleaned the slip rings and threw new brushes at it. My reman unit was 180 and died in a year, this junkyard one has gone 14 months with zero issues. Anyone else swear by scrapyard electrical parts over the box stores?

Cleaning the slip rings probably did more for that alternator than the low miles did, since most of those reman failures start with dirty contacts or bad brushes. Denver's dry air helps too, way less corrosion on the junk parts out there than you'd get somewhere humid. Junkyard electrics are a solid bet as long as you test them before you bolt them on.
