A couple weeks back in Phoenix my temp gauge started creeping up at stop lights and I traced it to a cracked plastic tank that mists coolant onto the exhaust. A new one online was $65 so I grabbed a clean tank off a wrecked 2000 XJ at Pick Your Part for $12 and bolted it in with the old bracket and some hose from my scrap bin. The debate is whether a $12 used plastic tank is a smart budget move or just a time bomb waiting to blow on the highway. Some guys say always buy new plastic because heat cycles make old ones brittle. What would you do, roll the dice on the junkyard tank or pay 5x for new?
