That time I got ratio'd for calling out a fake sob story on Twitter
So I'm scrolling through Twitter last Tuesday and see this girl from Phoenix claiming she got fired for posting a pic of her cat. Turns out she actually got canned for leaking customer data, I found the whole thread from her old boss. I replied with receipts and suddenly 2,000 people are telling me I'm the villain for 'policing empathy'. Wild part is the thread got deleted after she got caught lying again. Has anyone else been attacked for just posting facts in one of these cancel mobs?

And Blair, don't you think that's just how we are now, nobody stops to double check the story before jumping all in and attacking the messenger? @blair_lewis85 you're spot on, it's the same reason people share fake news on group chats or fall for those viral "missing pet" scams without a second thought.

Does @rivera.holly think that if we actually started fact-checking before reacting, these fake stories would stop completely or would people just get better at hiding the lies? Honestly, I've been wondering this myself because it feels like every week there's a new story that gets people riled up and it turns out to be totally made up or twisted. The Phoenix girl thing was just the tip of the iceberg, happens every week now with someone else. People will burn you alive for showing proof before they ever bother to check if the story even holds up. Tbh, I think we're all just so used to sharing emotional stuff that the truth gets buried under the outrage. Ngl, it's exhausting trying to point out facts when nobody wants to hear them.
