That 2016 podcast apology still haunts me, but not for the reason you think

I was scrolling through old YouTube clips last Tuesday night and landed on that whole Natalie Wynn versus Contrapoints drama from 2019. The thing that gets me is how the apology video itself flipped the public script in like 48 hours. She went from being shredded by both sides to having people defend her because the haters got too gleeful with the pile-on. I remember watching the livestream chat go from pure venom to 'actually wait, this is getting weird.' The real shift happened when a bunch of drama channels started making reaction videos to the reaction videos, and suddenly the discourse was about the discourse. Has anyone else noticed that the cancel cycle now moves so fast that the backlash to the backlash usually wins the week?

Went down that same rabbit hole last month and ended up watching a 40 minute video about someone reacting to someone reacting to a response video. I still can't tell you what the original fight was even about. Guess that makes me part of the problem, but at least I'm in good company.
