I thought that guy who got run off Twitter for a 2019 joke was just whining, then I read the actual thread
Honestly I rolled my eyes at the whole thing for like a year. Some guy I never heard of posted a bad joke back in 2019, a screenshot resurfaced on a Tuesday, and within 48 hours his employer put out a statement and he was gone. My first take was that he said something dumb on a public app and that is on him. Then a buddy sent me the original thread and it was way less dramatic than the headlines made it out to be, the joke was flat and lazy but it was clearly a bit, and the quote tweets were full of people who had never seen his stuff piling on for clout. What really flipped me was watching a smaller account get dragged for replying to him with a joke that was basically the same thing, and nothing happened to that person because they were on the right side that week. That is when it stopped looking like a rule and started looking like a vibe check, whoever the crowd likes that day gets a pass. Now I pay way more attention to who is doing the piling on and how fast it moves, because 48 hours is not enough time for anyone to defend themselves. Has anyone here tracked a case where the crowd turned out flat wrong and the person got their job back?
