The tent stake puller I ignored for 2 years finally saved my trip

Last Saturday at Pine Creek campground, the ground was like concrete after that dry spell and my hands were raw after fighting 8 stakes out of the dirt. My neighbor handed me one of those orange plastic stake puller tools I always thought was a gimmick, and it popped each one out in about 5 seconds flat. Has anyone else found a cheap, simple piece of gear they laughed off for years and now can't camp without?

Rubber mallet is mine. Used to think they were for people who couldn't swing a hammer. Now mine lives in the truck door pocket. Smacked my tent stakes in and out for three seasons without bending a single one.

Same thing happened to me. Bought one for a tent repair kit and now I grab it for everything. Forgot my metal mallet on a trip once and honestly didn't miss it. The rubber one just works better for most stuff.
