That time a cheap tent stake cost me a whole night's sleep in a Wyoming windstorm
Last July, a gust snapped a bargain-bin aluminum stake, collapsing my tent's vestibule at 2 AM. I spent the next four hours holding the pole in place with my boot. Anyone have a go-to brand for stakes that can actually handle high winds?

Man, hugos67 is right, but I just use big rocks when the ground's too hard.

Oh man, big rocks are the ultimate backup plan! I've definitely smashed a few tent stakes trying to hammer them into packed clay. Those MSR stakes are solid though, I finally caved and got a set last season. They're worth the extra weight when you're fighting hard ground all night.

Ugh, that sounds miserable. I've had good luck with those thick, V-shaped steel stakes from MSR. They bend way less often than thin aluminum ones in rocky ground or wind. Just be ready for the extra weight in your pack.
