That rainstorm at Lake Almanor last June wrecked my whole tent setup
I was camped up near the north shore for a week long trip when a sudden downpour flooded my vestibule because I'd set the fly too tight... ended up with a soggy sleeping bag and a broken pole. Has anyone else had a bad weather moment that made you rethink your whole camp layout?

william816 - about your cook setup getting blown in the mud, I feel your pain. That said, I gotta gently push back on the pole snapping being about the tent brand. I was using a pretty solid Mountain Hardwear, and the pole actually cracked because I had the fly staked too tight like I mentioned. When that sudden heavy rain hit, the fabric couldn't shift and breathe, so the pole took all the bending stress and gave out. Happens more often with aluminum poles if you overtighten things, especially in a storm that comes up fast. Did you check your guylines were loose enough before the wind hit, or were you stuck fixing it mid-storm like I was?

Got caught in the same storm but on the west side near the dam. Did you stake out your guylines at all for extra support? That wind came in so hard my tarp was flapping like a kite for an hour before I could get it sorted. My whole cook setup got blown into the mud which was a real pain to clean up. What kind of tent were you using that the pole snapped so easy?
