That old canvas tent I dragged out of my dad's garage

Last weekend I pulled out a 30 year old canvas tent from my dad's garage. Set it up in the backyard to air it out. That thing weighs a ton compared to my modern backpacking tent. Probably 20 pounds easy. But man, that old canvas smell hit me hard. Brought back memories of camping trips in Oregon when I was a kid. Rain would hit that tent and it just held up no problem. No leaks, no fuss. My current tent is lighter by a mile but I swear it breathes worse. Has anyone else gone back to an older piece of gear and felt torn about switching?

Honestly, old canvas just hits different.

Old stuff was built to last, not to save weight. Same thing with my dad's cast iron skillet - heavy as hell but nothing cooks like it.
