Talked to a park ranger who changed how I look at tent stakes

I was packing up at Big Bend last weekend and a ranger came by to chat, said he'd seen three tents blow away that month because people used cheap aluminum stakes on hard ground. He told me he switched to 8 inch steel stakes after the first time it happened to him and hasn't lost a tent since. Anybody else ever had a tent fail because of bad stakes in a windy spot?

That "three tents blow away" stat is wild, makes me want to throw out my aluminum stakes right now.
