Rant: A guy at the Yosemite campground told me my $200 sleeping bag was 'overkill'

I was setting up my tent last fall and this older guy, Dave, saw my new zero-degree bag and just shook his head. He said, 'You city folks buy gear for the label, not the trip... my old $40 Coleman bag has seen thirty winters.' It stuck with me because he was so sure, but I froze one night in a cheap bag years ago and won't do it again. Has anyone else had someone trash-talk your gear choice on a trip?

Come on, a cold snap? How bad could it really be... brown.emma gets it, a chill is just a chill. I bet you just forgot a jacket one time and now it's a whole story.
