PSA: That little pocket tool finally earned its keep on a city trip

I always thought my camping multi-tool was just for the woods. Then a zipper broke on my bag in a hotel lobby. I used the pliers to fix the pull, and the file to smooth a sharp edge on a chair. It saved a morning of hassle and changed my mind on what 'essential gear' means.

Honestly that just sounds like carrying extra weight for imaginary problems. Most hotels have basic tools at the front desk if you really need pliers. A chair with a sharp edge is a safety issue they should fix, not you. Carrying metal through city security or into events is asking for trouble and a pocket knife does 90% of those jobs anyway.

My pliers are for my imaginary friends, Sean.

Used to think that was camping gear too, but now it never leaves my pocket.
